V-22 Can't Fly More Than 30 Minutes Away
V-22s are no longer barred from flying, but they are now operating with a restriction that significantly affects their ability to carry out the mission.
Military.com just broke the news that the Osprey is only allowed to fly within 30 minutes of a “suitable airfield.”
Ward explores what this means to the U.S. Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps.

Two days ago, April 19, Israel conducted that retaliatory strike on Iran. The Israelis have provided no details about the mission, but Iranian military officials have said that the IDF used both tactical aircraft and attack drones to hit a military air base near the city of Isfahan. Those officials also claimed, based on the fact their radar systems had detected no unauthorized aircraft flying ...

Why Did the Israelis Strike an Aid Convoy in Gaza?
Переглядів 48 тис.Місяць тому
The IDF has just released its preliminary report following a drone attack on a World Central Kitchen convoy in Gaza on April 1 that killed 7 aid workers. The report claims the chain of command flying the drone mistakenly identified the workers as Hamas gunmen, in spite of the fact the convoy was authorized by the IDF before it started its trip. So was the targeting simply a function of the fog ...

Crap do-it-all heliplane. Use matured tech bozo's.
Probably because it being a woman pow is way worse than being a male pow which is why u shouldn't fukin be there in the first place
Frankly, with hindsight, the USN instead of building the 2 LCS should have bought the FREMM multipurpose frigate back in the 2000s and the USN would have had 30 FREMM multipurpose frigates in service by now
If you don’t love america, then gtfo!
Flying death trap. Too many moving parts.
Great Episode!
maybe the blackhawks were totally fine
Good video
Vertibirds in real life. In Fallout 4 it was a joke that they crashed all the time.
This sounds like the current state is that the aircraft broke and was grounded / restricted for such an extended period that the crews are not current, and thus have to start as if the bird were being initially fielded?
Your Amazon link is bad I think. Amazon msg “Can’t find that page.”
Thinking they could replace the mighty Battle COD is the second biggest mistake the Navy has made with regards to their aviation capabilities, the first is of course the retirement of the Tomcat.
You are a joke...
Thank you for this amazing view of carrier operations. It's nice to see the bright young faces and their commitment to defending our nation. I learned a lot here, Ward.
Since the inception of the V-22, it has had problems. It has the worst flight time history of modern aircraft in a few decades!
"They (the females pilots} were quite good". Quite good. Potent comment.
I bought that book at Walden books when the store was still around in 1985 and I still have that book it’s in great condition.
My old man had “Bug” as a sponsor for one of his cruises as a middy. He told me stories of sitting out at the LSO shack observing FCLP with him. Of course at the time he had no idea who “Bug” was. Only later once he became a fleet NFO would he realize that he had been in the presence of such a legend.
The choices our military has been making for procurements in the last fifteen years kinda worries me.
I'm not a pilot or even in the military, but it's not at all difficult to find apparent service members online calling these a death trap.
The new Truman cover is cool Commander!
The issues listed with crew comfort seem like typical aircraft carrier operation with these older gals
I think the Capitan of the Forestall overzealous NOW because of the imprudent obsession with JUST number of sorties at the expense of safety AND warwinning effectiveness. Sure, we all know this NOW, after learning the hard way infinitely many lessons about sustained carrier operations. With inadvertently indefinite Viet Nam war aims, mission quality is nebulous, so only quantity can be shown or known. None of these aircraft were prepped for post-strike reconnaissance analysis as well. This obsession with ONLY vast quantity and immeasurable quality is/was the circumstantial factor that unknowingly plagued every part of the Viet Nam War for the Americans and this incident highlights the very cause (still unrecognized) reason we lost - right from the beginning. Too much strike without pause and measure by a single carrier captain like this is indicative of plain, primitive unprofessionalism that was just something we had to learn the hard way, I guess. Who knew better then?
Great interview Mooch!
Let the boys have fun
Maybe it's because of Hollywood and how people walk away from accidents like nothing has happened. Given that there was no explosion, no crushing impact to the cockpit, no ejection - I was shocked to hear of the severity of his injuries. I guess that's what a 75G shock will do to the human body.
What is it going to take for the leadership to realize the Osprey is a failure?
Ward, has there ever been a crash and a LSO and the others by him were injured?
Back in the early '70's we had "locker checks". The announcement went over the Ship's PA system to go to your roll call areas. We stood around as everybody's locker was checked. This took about 45 minutes. The results were published in the Ships weekly newspaper. The biggest offenders were the Chief Petty officers, with the Officers being a close second. However, the "caste system" made sure the Officers caught didn't have their names printed but on a Ship with 900 souls on board word spread quickly. Getting "busted" meant a weeks restriction of liberty so it was easy to know which Officer got caught. The "goat locker" had half or more of the Chiefs on restriction after most every" locker inspection." Ahh, the good old days! Everybody hated the chiefs.
A man’s man.
Ward. I like you. I LOVE your stories. However they are difficult to listen to. Can you find a guy/gal to help you improve what you are trying to do? In journalism school they were called the "face". I know you dug down in the F-14 realm. The latest interview in front of his F-14 was the best yet. cool but meh. with love.

I would've liked to have heard more of your opinion on the airframe.
I'm wondering how one deems female integration into the forces as a success? There have been no major wars since this decision. The most exercises of the military have been very lopsided engagements in which the "enemy" could not even consider direct engagement. The last such a war could even be considered to have been fought might have been Korea, but even there it really was lopsided - it was political controls that held back easy victory. WWII was the last actual war in which both sides met on almost an equal military footing... and there was definitely no gender integration in the services during that. I also wonder how one would not consider the military to adjust things through political motivations. How many marines and sailors have been brought back after being discharged for refusing to take a vaccine that had not gotten a standard FDA clearance?
The osprey could have been a lot better than it is. I started working on them in 1985. I was an electrical lead on the cockpit section and helped develop many upgrades and improvements. the electrical distribution sections "power distribution panels or pdp's" were a nightmare to build, too many wires all of which had to pass through filters. At first we used aluminum wires for anything over 6AWG. these were so stiff that when forming them they could snap. on A/C 11, I worked with an outside vendor and an engineer to test newly designed "FLEX-cable" finely crafted copper wires in 06, 04,02, 0, etc" that were very flexible which allowed us to use larger wires with a sharper bend radius. But a lot of the issues had to do with size limitations so that three aircraft could fit in the C-5 for transportation after the wings were stowed. otherwise we could have built it larger and stronger and safer. there are many many more thing to discuss had i the time/room.I can answer many questions about the v-22 cabin section since i was the person that worked on just about every thing electrical.
I remember this incident. I was working on the E2 next to the island there. I helped position the net and stretch it out and get it ready for hoisting. Yep, that was an exciting time!
In the mid to late 70's USMC didn't stand for what you might think... Uncle Sam's Marijuana Club... The smell was the thickest down by the MP barracks in San Diego.
Death traps
they might test in the rear, but there was nothing stopping us from popping ripped fuel like it was going out of style during the iraq invasion.
I used to follow this aircraft since the 80's I read all about it and thought what a great machine, but fast forward 37 years and the darn thing still can't fly with modern avionics and technology. They have to get rid of it already before it kills more good men, and women.
Why can't we make this bullet proof?
I have always seen this bucket of bolts as a killer of dedicated service personnel.
I saw the “Bug” Conference Room in the Pentagon - too bad nobody knew his legacy but I ensured they did - I made sure to touch the nameplate for the room 🤙🇺🇸
Here at Pizza Party USA, we can either deliver troops or pizza in 30 minutes or less, or it's free!! 🎉🎉🎉🍕🍕🍕🤡🤡🤡🤡

Thank you very much this heroic man's story. My life richer for its learning. I trust - strongly - he rests in glory with all other heroes, for eternity. Thank you again.
The Osprey needs to be terminated. It's had this clutch issue since day one. Being generous, this issue should have been resolved eight years ago. Enough Corporate Welfare Programs. Give our military weapons that work. Not weapons that will work one day.
Sounds like we need an all new Greyhound II.
unbelievable. "We have high confidence that we understand what component failed and why, and we're still working on is the why". In other words they have not conclusively determined the cause of failure or how to fix it (ensure it doesn't fail again and cause more lives lost" Military standards sure have degraded over the years. Until they ARE SURE, the airplane should remain grounded or scrapped. Good thing for the military that service members have no option but to fly in the A/P or no one would go. This A/P has been a problem ever since its inception, with long delays in certification and production, and inordinately high accident/casualty rates
Looks like a duck now…quacked me up.
